About The Nameless One

Cinematographer. Conversationalist. Coffee Slayer. Vagabond story teller. Gamer. Life enthusiast. I just do things.

Far from normal

…I am.

Many of us think of our lives as boringly normal, while others live the high life. Take a step back, and take a look at your life as an outsider might. Now, tell us at least six unique, exciting, or just plain odd things about yourself.

Today’s daily prompt makes me go thinking as I always struggle to introduce or tell about myself. Either I haven’t done anything worthwhile, or I don’t fully understand myself. Actually both. This quote from the acclaimed game Assassin’s Creed 3 crossed my mind thinking about it:

“Part of me wants to fight and repel all outsiders. The other part of me is the outsider.” ― Ratonhnhaké:ton/Conner

Set in the times of the American Revolution, this is the thought which comes across Conner (given name by his mentor, have a look at the unpronounceable name) who is from a tribe of native americans and his father being an english nobleman (ie ‘the outsider’). Well this also reminds me of The Outsider from another acclaimed assassin game Dishonored (2012 was the year of assassins really).

Now coming to topic, while in this context this is quite in literal terms because of his parents and lineage, it makes me think on an intellectual level. I have heard many who phrase in such a way ‘their biggest challenge is competing against themselves’. Well, while that sounds cute, if you think in a way, such a person who always tests themselves and go ahead, doesn’t that make him/her always a loser too? 😛 I’d like to put it rather this way:

“Having no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.”

– Bruce Lee

Harry Potter abnormalAnd sometimes many a times, I find it difficult to term what exactly constitutes normal? Why are many things considered normal just because in majority or something which people have been doing thousands hundreds of years? This argument is endless until most people actually start thinking in a much wider perspective so I’ll leave it at that. Instead I’ll just like to put 6 things which people find odd about me which I have seen, not necessarily I find it odd myself:

  1. My hair. Always get a second look, bitching behind my back (not limited to my hair though) and even on my face at times. I find it strange why people (here) don’t find a guy with long (curly) hair normal. And chicks who actually adore it keep asking my secret. Honestly I hardly do anything special. Actually nothing. Perks of having good hair genes or something like that?
  2. Crooked/Out of the box/Weird/name it how you want. I don’t always think straight. In many cases I don’t think at all, though that’s a different story. I’m not claiming to be a super detective and crime fighter, but to my observation and thoughts, there are mostly different perspectives, even if they are not the most innovative. And I at times tend to overdo it too, such as here, my initial blabber instead writing these points directly.
  3. Girls. Wait, what did you think when you first thought? Well all straight/bi guys and homo females like females, don’t they? Sure I like seeing hot models too. But what really turns me on? Two things, first curly hair. You read that right. Half of the females I bond well with have this trait, as though I magically bond well them. Heck I myself have diabolic curly hair. The other one is that I actually prefer females into health (NOT modeling for fuck’s sake!), sports and shit, who actually eat and are independent. I’m far from a perfect person (and even if I was hypothetically speaking) I would prefer a female (by far) for being herself and who has more reason. I’m glad to know such women of all ages and backgrounds, being strong and awesome they are. Well here’s to hope I get such a woman in my life, well if I ever have that charming person in my life (who am I kidding?). Till then I’ll (try to) get the joke of myself fitter.
  4. I tend to speak/act without thinking many times. That’s right, since I’m being honest anyways on this public platform to unknown no. of people and all, why not say it? This might come back to haunt me too, but for now I don’t much care. I know this might not be a good thing or so, I have this weird idea set in my head since I was a kid, that the most important moments of life leave you no time to think and you must act. While here I’m far from actually implementing it in the right sense and mostly just making a fool of myself, I’m still learning and (trying to) improve myself. Till then read more about the greater fool.Image
  5. I’m sort of a hipster. I always tend to follow lot of things in it’s early days, be it movies, tv shows or anything in soon-to-be-popular media, and I follow em before hitting mainstream. At least rather one good odd thing here, I guess. Sometimes leads me to a “Oh, stop it you!” moments, but I’m not complaining.  😛
  6. I can’t even think of a #6, I’m so pathetic at this. I’ll just end by something more less seen – I don’t condemn suicide. Stop thinking, I don’t support it either. I kinda admire people who do it, irrespective of reasons (though people label all of them as foolish, I would beg to differ depending on the reason actually). I feel that is one decision one has made atleast taking charge of one’s life, even if the rest was pathetic. Not that I’m saying go kill yourself, just saying it’s not really a bad/wrong thing as society puts it. ( get lot of heat on this, mostly senseless as usual). Well like many I indulge in lot of controversial and conspiratorial topics mostly maintaining a neutral ground, that’s not new.

That’s about it. I wish I could have said better. Well perhaps next time.

Mentor Me

Have you ever had a mentor? What was the greatest lesson you learned from him or her?

Well I never had a mentor who directly mentored me, and it was something so far (even though miserable) on my own. Even though I had some great teachers in my life so far, I can’t exactly term them as that. In a past post called Life Lessons I wrote somethings which might add more to it.

Forest Dump

Alright that title was simply referring to the 1994 classic movie Forest Gump.

What do I prefer more between a beach or a forest? Well that is an interesting question. I love forest areas and spent quite some quality time in them. It’s like an isolation away from the current world, to a world of peace. even if it’s not in literal sense. And speaking of beaches, in my great city, that is a joke. There is garbage in the name of beaches here. Heard in some other parts there are good ones, but I don’t recall the last time I’ve spent quality time at one. I would like to be at a good beach one day and sleep on a hammock looking at the ocean and the sun, and thinking about all that happened. I’ll wait for that day. Besides there is a (not so kid friendly) thing here on my bucket list too.

Proud

Image

The last time someone was proud of me, well honestly can’t say. Not that I keep doing great things and losing track of people taking pride in what I do. As far as I’m concerned, (I feel) never have done anything worthwhile. Probably in school. But quite many of them till date, many feel more of obligatory, and I don’t believe in false pride. Or if such a thing did happen, I don’t remember it, just momentary happiness yet and need to keep moving on.

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another:

“What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”

― C.S. Lewis

Seeing this writing challenge reminded me of my school days. In school, in the subject of English language among essays, various forms of letters and countless other things, I remember we having this topic of character assassination sketch. Basically, it was your free ticket to bitch about people sounding all professional and sophisticated. Well, almost. I got the daily/weekly email when I was chatting with this person and in that instance I decided I’ll write about a friend of mine (who chooses to remain anonymous and hopefully won’t sue me) After all, this is not unsolicited. 😛

Loves: Eating, eating, watching tv, YELLING, a bit shopping and sleeping. More or less.

Hates: Well sorry, can’t have everyone annoying the shit out of her, so I’ll leave this as it is. 😛

Favourite quote:

“Ask me no questions, and I’ll tell you no lies.” ― Oliver Goldsmith

Actually the last line actually goes (Ar)go fuck yourself, but will come to that later. As I was saying above, she was busy working on our college magazine of this year, she being an editor (or something like that) and I being so busy doing absolutely nothing was lending my services, as I was such a good friend after all. 😛

I don’t exactly remember when we met, but it was through a mutual old friend of ours and I got in touch around the time I came back to Bombay in 2010, as we both were on the hellish path of Engineering in the hell known as SFIT/Mumbai University. Well so far at least one of us (she I mean) is making it.

Usually everyone would go on to write about one of their parents, siblings, partners, best friend or some figure, and I have mostly spontaneous all my life, and besides neither of us are of the socializing nature, only key difference is one among is a normal human and the other is, otherwise. For getting started, read the starting of the post again. Initially it was something like that. And the beside picture is from first year of college in 2010, simply to annoy her dedicated to the sweet friend of mine.

I remember her being the shy girl only opening up to her bunch of girlfriends and few others [insert this creature]. Well she still turns instantly red or blue, depending on the context, and it’s rather very hilarious to see her so, safe to say now it’s somewhat on these lines:

Image

While she has a white face (smiling or otherwise depending how much annoyed she is( don’t be fooled, she is not your average damsel in distress. Sometimes I get scared myself when she goes bonkers, but also entertained at the same time. One of the things I like about her the most is the usage of clever and well, hilarious language instead of regular crude. But it is infinitely more amusing to see her screaming and abusing when she totally loses it. Once we had a bet, and of course I won, she totally lost it and started jumping and stomping on the floor, hurling her love for the wonderful e-achoo-cational system of the college (and honestly I had nothing to do with it here!) 😛

But she is not all the cold, abusing joker as so far I mentioned you might think, actually not at all. Inside is a sensitive loving soul who loves and cares for the people around her. But being my friend, she won’t ever admit it. Quite some times she drowns into her inferiority complex and needs to be pulled out, but oh well that’s happens to us all. Or not. Well at least she listens, sometimes. We both often share our disdain for many things, one mainly being idiotic south Indian family trends, which we both deeply *sigh* at. We are also similar in many aspects, such as love for movies and tv. And yes how can I forget Linkin Park, how we became fast friends in the first place! (okay a big number of people I know is because of that reason). And while not so much, just like many humans need to brush teeth, have a bath (twice), and all the regular routine of a regular person, I do that twice a week or so. Satisfied with the fact I brush my teeth for the least. She is a girl who is cautious of her health (I guess?) but (as I already mentioned, did I?) loves to eat. Me? Only the latter part. She keeps complaining how sucky her hair is, while me on the other hand, well I would rather not say. 😛

In India, the common response equivalent to a yes or roger, irrespective of the language of correspondence is ‘ha’. And combine that with a ‘huh?’ here and you get this: “haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan“. Notice the ‘n’ syllable at the end. That’s the best I could re-produce her weird-hilarious-awesome response in text for both situations. Gets me everyone every time! 😀

Well this might have been bit deviated from a proper character sketch, but I do/write what I want. I might be good at reading people, but not at making a report of it. And while I’m not all sugarcoating it, she is a bitch at times though (okay more than few times), but still at heart a sweet person and a cherished friend of mine. 🙂

AFK.

Now if only she kept her word at times and treats me something to eat…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home

Image

ImageThat is the picture of my building which I took from my crappy cell phone. I remember taking one years ago for a similar task, couldn’t find it so decided to take a new one instead. My building was the last one in my colony to be re-painted again a year ago or so, and I’m not a big fan of the colour(s). Well atleast because of the bit different look, becomes easy for others to understand. So this is (technically) my home.

A random car probably of a visitor of some resident, 2 random stones I don’t know why placed there, quite some greenery in the entire colony and relatively quiet except for those very annoying and incredibly lousy festival times.

A more definitive way of the idea of home can be seen here in post for a previous challenge. And in a more literal sense, what makes my house my home, you can see here.

Cupid’s bullet

You must be wondering why a bullet? Well in today’s world, an arrow is somewhat old fashioned (although I disagree but keeping in this context) because the world we are in people fall in and out of love just in a snap. Ridiculous really.

I personally don’t mind such cheesy holidays, though in most countries it’s not technically a holiday. The only thing I see is more couples flaunting and showing how not-so-lucky others are and shit, and on the other side – singles, fu-ck-damentalists, and some sorry fellas hooked up unsuccessful in getting laid bitching about Valentine’s Day on how it is fake, more about corporates making money. While I agree that on both sides there is truth, whom I feel sorry for are the middle ones who aren’t able to enjoy a day on this theme, if I can put it that way.

The holiday here in India for instance regarded as a front for neocolonialism, and the exploitation of working classes through commercialism by multinational corporations. Studies have shown that Valentine’s Day promotes and exacerbates income inequality in India, and aids in the creation of a pseudo-westernized middle class. As a result, the working classes and rural poor become more disconnected socially, politically, and geographically from the hegemonic capitalist power structure. While I agree with this, but here is the catch – isn’t this the same story almost everywhere? With that logic, not only India but almost every country should be removed from the world map.

And coming to the non-intellectual aka foolish lot, the hindu/religious ‘activists’ (give me a break), politicians and all those who have their own agenda, I have no need to even explain. One of the big reasons why the country/world is on a downward spiral. Well not only them, everyone else who share similar mentality and absurd thinking.

And coming to today’s daily prompt, well I have already mentioned a few times about the things I love, viz my laptop, gadget-accessories and well, bed. Not sure I have very much affection for anyone, let alone full love. Still waiting for that darling person to enter me life, and probably who can manage to put a bullet through my head. And sorry for letting you down, I stopped writing poetry years ago, and if I honestly admit by looking back, they were just absurd ramblings of my younger foolish naive self. More or less.

Image

So instead, here is a drastic turned beautiful short love story I personally found in the critically acclaimed and best thing on TV, Game of Thrones based on the epic book series A Song of Ice and Fire.

Image

Not going to say much if you haven’t read/seen already, if not I highly recommend you start doing it the first you do next. Hopefully next year I’ll have a more positive thing to write. Till then:

Valentine’s Day? That’s a Linkin Park song!

Same Difference

Differences and Similarities: which divides us more?

This is a very good question to ponder upon. It can be viewed on at many levels, from individuals to a country. We all have people in our lives and around us with both traits. We tend to bond with those who are similar to those, with similar interests, tastes and likings but at the same time we are also like having different people with all these different opinions and different views of the world. Doesn’t that make everyone of us special?

yin-yangBut coming to which of them which divides us more, that is the tricky aspect. It is in truth, more of a rhetorical question as an argument for each can be correspondingly countered with the other. Differences can lead to many new areas, but they can widen the area too much. Similarities can bring some together, but too much of it leads to fanaticism. Each one stretched beyond a limit in their direction leads to separation.

Similarity and Difference are integral parts of each other. You can’t pick one over the other. What makes us all similar is that we all are different.
