Buffalo Nickel

ImageSo going by today’s prompt, I looked in my withered wallet and randomly removed a coin from the small compartment which contained some coins. This was it, a new coin of Re 1 which I found, year being 2009. Which reminded me this is the first of the two changes of coins in the recent years. While the above pictured look best than the previous, with some nice different hand gestures in every coin denomination, the latest ones are dam small reflecting the insignificance of the small amount in the current world.

Coming to what I did that year, well I was Kota, Rajasthan away from my home here in Mumbai for 2 years from ’08 – ’10. Memories good and bad. Actually this day that year, worse. I remember being end of my 11th grade exams and I had my jaws broken in January, had a major surgery and didn’t didn’t eat or heck even brush my teeth for 2 months. Being the heavy eater and drinker I’m was bit weird spending those birthdays (including mine) without having anything and just looking at others doing it. Well that’s all I remember from that time, which was ‘big’. Well then went to 12th grade. And life went on.

The Crazy One

ImageThat is a tribute I made with the help of a friend who is a awesome graphic designer on the occasion of the late visionary Steve Job’s first death anniversary last year. Here is the post back then.

Today is his birthday and he would have been 58 years old. He has been a big inspiration to me since I was a school kid and he has struck millions of lives (in whatever way you can think, and no doubt especially after his death as people often get recognized only after they kick the bucket sadly)

I’m not going to re-quote any of the many brilliant things he said (besides I’m doing that since years and do that often). Here I would rather silently ponder and while at it wanted to show the above piece first time in this blog of mine. I would recommend to watch his documentary Secrets of Life, apart from reading his biography and seeing his 2005 commencement speech which most would have done by now. If not, do that too.

Again, thank you Steve, for always being an inspiration to me.

Write about what you did last weekend as though youโ€™re a music critic reviewing a new album.

Well actually I already wrote a post on what I did last weekend (twice! sort of) which was awesome. Here is a direct link to that post which is on my other blog. As you can read, it was great, the saturday I mean. Spent the sunday lazing around.

So as a bonus I’ll say about today. In fact I’m glad that this weekend (I mean just saturday yet) was great too. My college festival started yesterday, which is called Iris and this year the theme is Iris ’13 Shuffle, Today was great, well known Bollywood actor (first time in history of my college and the festival) Boman Irani came in the afternoon and it was great. He enacted a bit from his hit movie 3 idiots and even sang the song loved by almost every student in the country Give me some sunshine playing the guitar and gave a motivating yet fun speech. Bit envy all the fuckers of the committee behind the fest for getting to take pictures with him and especially those who escorted him and spoke with him. Well not that much as I had my share too and still waiting to meet those who I actually love ๐Ÿ˜‰

And the other best part was my college was the venue for the qualifying RAW Street B-boying battle of Mumbai by the Indian B-boying Federation. There were 64 B-boys (actually 63 guys and one b-girl)ย  battling and it was simple awesome. Being a fan of b-boying I enjoyed as hell. Not that I can do it even a bit, but I (along with most of the crowd)ย  were astonished by many things, mostย  being the skill performed/showed by the participants, a huge guy who had more fat than all the rest who showed off cuts and muscles (well apart from the average and skinny ones) reaching the top 16 and till a high spot, which showed size doesn’t matter, only dedication does. And the cherry of the cake, the youngest b-boyer who wouldn’t have been over 12 years old, not only was the most cheered of the day but ended up wining in the finals and the city qualifiers! That showed age doesn’t matter too. Well personally I (along with some of the remaining intellectuals left) felt the other finalist should have won, I was personally rooting for him and he did a great job too, he was practically in the air all the time showcasing awesome skills. Well the kid did have incredible talent no doubt, but well since he was a kid he got most of the support (or as I put it sympathy vote) and in the final he pulled off a move by pulling a chair, squeezing inside it and performing the same steps, and that won everyone’s heart, it was like in your face to the other guy. Well in the end glad for him, good to show support for upcoming generation and the art form itself.

And the day ended with a DJ party. Very tired coming home after a great day. I didn’t take any pictures or anything as I don’t have anything substantial with me for now, and I’m like on a break now sort of.

I guess like last weekend tomorrow will be another boring sunday, I just hope not.

All you can eat!

Here is a small account of the most satisfying meal Iโ€™ve ever eaten.

This is post I had written in relation to that awesome restaurant where I had it (in Dec ’12) where you can find the name, map location and a picture.

Now coming to the splendid meal thanks to a friend who gave me and another a treat for his birthday, we decided to try that restaurant since we heard quite a good deal about it and besides always on the look out for trying new places when possible.

There it was a buffet system. And since it was a sunday, there was more variety in the menu that day because of that, and well at the same time being more expensive per person (about 750 INR per person). But no worries since I was in for treat. ๐Ÿ˜€

The ambiance of the place was great. Moreover, there was a festival going on at that time on the theme of Hawaii so it was a greenish atmosphere. The starters were simply amazing, and as was the word some of the best there was. Good variety in both vegetarian and meat. Several varieties of grilled and juicy chicken, mutton, fish, prawns, was simply mouth watering, and also fried potatoes, cottage cheese and paneer (which were the only veg stuff we had), all on countless multiple rounds. We were kind of full on the starters itself, but well all of us were demons when it came to eating (and well, drinking).

After a lot of hogging munching on the starters, came the time for the main course. There was about 5-7 dishes in non-veg and 10 in vegetarian, so there is no worry for thinking of not worth it if you don’t eat meat, it is great. That was the first time I had crab, it was okay, along with chicken, mutton and the others, overall making it good. And the best/most favourite came at the end, the desserts. Dam awesome. ๐Ÿ˜€

Unlike most other humans these days, I don’t think about to click pictures of what I’m about to eat. I just dam eat it. And more. And more. Now this is one of those plenty of reasons I’m glad to be a ’90s person who well still retains some of the sensible aspects. That’s why I took just a picture with my garbage phone after half into my dessert because I knew I might blog about it sometime, and not just stupid share and #hashtag it saying what I had.

Oh the funny moment was, I and my friend ordered drinks and paid for them ourselves as already it was going too much for the poor party giver, as he always later regrets why he gave in the first place. ๐Ÿ˜› And besides he didn’t drink, and the waiter who went to ask him for his and upon getting the reply that he doesn’t drink went into a shock who exclaimed “Not even a beer?!”. He said nope. Funny how beer had become a non-alcoholic non-drinker’s drink these days. Well kinda true, more or less.

I think I should head there again on my birthday since it’s been awhile. On the other hand, I might not, I’m already poor. And now my mouth is watering and tummy making those noises remembering that awesome food. Goddam.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Kiss

For this one, I couldn’t think of anything cool, sweet or whatever. Made me think that I have witnessed from humans to otherwise lot of beautiful moments, but alas I could never actually capture it say for in my mind. Well guess somethings aren’t meant to be captured on a lens. (or that is something which a loser amateur photographer would say, I guess)

So here is my entry which I thought would be best (for now) and well, at least relevant.

Sorry ladies, that is my true love, my laptop. (well, for now) ๐Ÿ˜›

If you could un-invent something, what would it be? Discuss why, potential repercussions, or a possible alternative.

A imaginative but very thought provoking question. How many times in our lives we must have faced that ‘how I wish I could have taken that back’ moment.

ImageWhile there are many things I feel wish I could undo from my life, when I think of something not necessarily related to my life, it would be the entire system, political, educational. justice, media dam everyone of it! By undo I mean undo the current pathetic state and change it with hopefully for a much better result. Well in the end, very much related to all our lives after all right?

And while writing this I casually asked my sister the same question. Quite interestingly, she responded with nuclear bombs.

Well what do you think?

A Plot of Earth

Youโ€™re given a plot of land and have the financial resources to do what you please. Whatโ€™s the plan?

This question reminded me playing The Sims 1/2/3 back in the day. So suppose I’m filthy rich and have a plot of land, I would build the largest theater in the world. And I would name it IYER IMAX. Some of the biggest and best quality screens in the world! Not only it would be a great source of income, but a boost to media and technology and hey, isn’t it cool owning your own private theater if you are a movie buff like me? Also a awesome house nearby ๐Ÿ˜€
