Someone whom I admire

There are quite some individuals whom I admire, most notably Steve Jobs who has been my life long idol. But here I would like to be a bit different and talk about someone quite different and uniique.

To start with I’ll list some of his traits:

  • Trained to physical and mental peak
  • Arsenal of gadgets, vehicles, and advanced technology
  • Inventor, detective, genius-level intelligence
  • Expert in most known forms of martial arts
  • Trained in all aspects of criminology
  • Mastery of the physical sciences
  • Computer expert
  • Master of disguise
  • Photographic memory
  • Trained in stealth and espionage techniques
  • Expert escape artist
  • World’s Greatest Detective
  • Unbreakable Will

By now (especially looking at the last 2 points for sake of humanity) you must be sure about whom I’m talking about- (the goddam) Batman. You must be thinking, hey he’s not even real! But let me tell you this – Batman has been more real than any hero on earth, and let me try to tell you why and why I admire him.

bof-wallpaper-GO

Batman is a fictional character created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger who came into this world in May, 1939 making him one of the first superheroes (#2 after Superman in 1938) and after over 73 years with various iterations from a funny costume guy running with bombs to the most sophisticated/complex character ever created, is still the most, immensely popular in practically all areas ranging from comics, books, video games and movies. He is a phenomenal icon in pop-culture and needs no further explanation and this will be just another post about him among hundreds or even thousands of fan sites and others.

Now why me? I grew up reading and watching Batman, and I would safely say that must be probably one of the first things I’ve read when I became capable of reading. What I listed above are more of his skills/attributes than traits, but I would like to highlight the last one – Unbreakable Will. Although he is a fictional character and anyone can spin up a story about always trying and never giving up, that is perhaps the single most thing among the others which always gets to me.

While there are many other characters with whom we people can relate to more, and Batman being more of a god. There is in fact a famous line which goes:

“There are only two gods – Death, and Batman”

Okay honestly, I made that up and full copyright goes to me. If that goes viral by any chance, then odds are I will be able to buy a Ferrari than claim I said that, but oh well letting you know just in case. There is no doubt he has been an inspiration for me and personally and millions in the world. The very purpose of his character was perhaps give hope to people in our real world, that anyone can be a hero and stand up to make a difference, just like his fictional world (and make billions of $ for DC)

Thank you Bob Kane and Bill Finger. I can keep on quoting from hundreds of sources, but I will end this with the one which really got to me and must have had a tear in my eye:

“And as the sun, that had been too afraid to show its face in this city, started to turn the black into grey, I smiled. Not out of happiness. But because I knew… that one day, I wouldn’t have to do this anymore. One day, I could stop fighting. Because one day… I would win. One day, there will be no pain, no loss, no crime. Because of me, because I fight. For you. And one day, I will win.”

Take one, Descend. Take two, Rise.

Run outside. Take a picture of the first thing you see. Run inside. Take a picture of the second thing you see. Write about the connection between these two random objects, people, or scenes.

Today’s daily prompt is one of the most interesting so far, which actually made my lazy ass get up and do something. It is late evening now and I don’t have a great smartphone or camera, and me being a passionate photographer planning to get one soon, this is the best I could do at the moment.

Descend

Image

Just opened my door and this is the first thing I saw. Stairs leading down from my home. This reminded me of one of the most famous rock songs of all time, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. I think I should name this Stairway from Heaven, or rather Hell, I don’t really know.

Rise

Image

This is the first thing which is visible after entering my house. Got this as a gift in December ’12 by my secret santa via redditgifts. On my living room wall ever since.

The Connection

Now before I could think of a connection between the two, and write some arbitrary stuff, to my astonishment I didn’t even have to think of anything! The connection is so clear (or I would like to think of it that way). The first image (outside my house) the stairs down. In the title why I preferred descend rather than fall from the epic The Dark Knight, though that did strike my mind first, I just felt we mostly likely fall at one or even more than one point of time in our lives we will fall but to my interpretation here that depicts in life we must get out of our comfort zone (ie our home in this context or any other in general terms) and descend to move ahead. We don’t fall willingly and falling down the stairs is pretty bad too (saying this with a lot of experience)

The second image, the poster of one of the best films made in our history, The Dark Knight Rises, and also my most favourite, is the second ‘stage’ or however you might put it. No matter who or where we are, to succeed we must make effort and Rise. The way back home, the stairs up is also a pretty dam relevant here. And Rise not only in the world, but also within (inside home).

So much connection metaphoric to life in just two simple images I took within 5 minutes following this challenge. Now I’m astonished myself.

Also this is directly the themes of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, the second and third films of the epic The Dark Knight Trilogy. Another degree of connection.

(Begins). Fall. Rise.

Revival of the Cyberpunk genre

Video

Recommended: Watch in HD.

The teaser for the much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 by creators of the epic The Witcher franchise, CD Projekt Red is upon us! Being a big fan of The Witcher franchise and their Polish developers CDP (shortened) for whom I have immense love and respect for, for they are one of the only few out there who are most fan oriented and live for the essence of the true gaming experience.

I have been waiting for this since first heard about it at the witcher forums a year ago or so and simply can’t wait! While this genre has been seen quite in many forms in different media like movies and video games, THIS is the real shit. Mike Pondsmith (yes, the actual creator of the genre!) himself is closely working with CDP in making this open world sci-fi epic.

Check out he site for Cyberpunk 2077. The new world, here we come!

Three Doors

In a nightmare, you’ve encountered three doors. Choose one, and let us know what you find on the other side.

20060202124957_3doors

This reminds me of the most famous problems in Probability Mathematics, the Monty Hall problem. Well I’m not much a digger for maths, but some subjects especially like probability I have a very deep interest in which is one of my favourite. Most people must have heard about it, just not necessarily with the same name.

Now instead of winning a car, or worse getting a goat, instead I might get a bad dream, or ‘win’ my nightmare. Either way, that would suck. But in this case, not much a big deal for me, as I seldom have dreams in my sleep, be it good or bad. The only things I have ever dreamed must be traveling around in nice exotic places, eating hogging lot of amazing food, hump a beautiful woman, or just sleep on a hammock in a nice tropical setting (now that’s a dream within a dream)

Coming to the doors, one might have a room with terrible food. Another one might lead me into a helpless jungle-island filled with dangerous beasts, animals and pirates alike, just like in Far Cry 3 perhaps. And the one which I’m most likely to pick (the ‘winning’ one) is a huge fall as big as from space to earth straight into a pile of shit. Dam that would be a nightmare indeed!

The story of my life (first edition?)

If you could read a book containing all that has happened and will ever happen in your life, would you? If you choose to read it, you must read it cover to cover.

That would be interesting really, After a bit of thinking, yes I would read it. While we remember a lot from our lives, no matter what we evidently forget lot which has happened over time and it would be good, no matter how pathetic it is, to read it all again and reflect over it. Once finished from the start to NOW, things will get interesting, might be boring, exciting, some things glad while some not digestible (for the moment) others  and even perhaps bit awkward. I mean, will the book say “And now you are reading your life story from the beginning, you have reached the present and continuing further…[ ]…  after finishing you say to yourself ‘holy fuck!’ and faint.” Now that would be funny 😛

While many would be of the opinion (even me in quite some circumstances) that not knowing what lies ahead would be better, exciting and a challenge to face, I’d personally rather read it and be able to change what I want, and be prepared for which I can’t change. Well if I’m able to know what lies ahead, odds are very well can. Life would be perhaps a lot better, if not interesting, and well the very fact knowing things might change the probabilities of something happening and how. Alright, I got too much into probability and science (fiction?).

If it were possible, I would like it to be a graphic novel 😀 as that is more of my tastes. And of course would like to ‘see’ all the ‘beautiful’ aspects of life behind and forward too 😉

Among 32 flavours the chosen one!

Chocolate.

Always been my most favourite. Apart from them I like Vanilla and Banana. Occasionally Strawberry and Blackcurrant. I wonder what different flavours are there since these ones are the most common on the planet.

And since me being from India and thus speaking British/Indian English, don’t mind the ‘u’ in flavour and the different (or rather ‘extra’) spelling in most other words 😛

Speaking of ice-cream and desserts, this is (a part of) what I had in December at Barbeque Nation. ‘Dam Awesome’ would be an understatement.

Image

This was the first time I took a pic of something which I ate (that too after almost being done) as I find people posting pictures of what they are eating highly annoying. I wanted to give write something about this place so the pic.

The food overall was amazing. One of the best restaurants in the Mumbai, be sure to go there at least once (enough to make you go again, mostly) The starters and in this context the desserts were delicious! I’m already growing fat thinking about it, and need to go there again. So anyone wants to treat this poor soul?

Mapping out life so far

Using Google Maps for the first time in a post thanks to this week’s writing challenge, while still trying to figure it out would like to talk about 3 places being a big part of my life and this being the area where I practically grew up so far.

Image

A. St. Francis D’Assisi High School

My school where I studied for 12 years of my life right from the start to grade 10. Biggest perk being I lived just nearby my school and now college (below) I also wrote a post about my school in my last year which you can have a look at. Lot has changed since then.

B. Fizzy

There are many places where I hung out around where I stay and in the entire city, but this one stands out for me. Back in ’03 or ’04 (don’t exactly remember when) I was in 6th grade when this small cafe opened which now is a big joint there today. I was there when it first opened back then and still go regularly today, from a small shop to big happening cafe. Fizzy might be just a local thing here (there are 4 of them in the north part of the city) but they might also be another home to many like me.

C. SFIT/University of Mumbai

My university where I’m studying currently (highly debatable) 😛 Again biggest perk I live close by. Studying Computer Science & Engineering and doing some other stuff.

So basically I grew up in this ‘grid’ and waiting to get out and see the world (permanently, not the occasional basis) I’ll keep writing about more places of significance in time, and hopefully I’ll be able to write form all around the world one day.

Vagabonding

Vagabonding is about taking time off from your normal life – from six weeks to four months to two years – to discover and experience the world on your own terms – Rolf Potts

Taking time off from your ‘normal life’, just that in my case, I want that to be ‘my normal life’! Generally when we hear the word ‘vagabond’ we think of person stricken with poverty/unemployment or just simply a fool wandering from place to place. But in reality, (or so I would like to think it that way) I would want to be a vagabond (my kind old man already claims I’m one of sorts), travel around the world, meet new people, see and do things which I always wanted to, get familiar with lot of new things which I might have never heard before, (it’s all about vaga-bonding right?) and live on the go.

Oh how I dream of such an ideal job. Looks like I’ll have to do a lot for that. The world seems small yet so large. (And I’ll keep my love for paradoxes for later)

Fear is not afraid of you

It’s interesting to think if someone was locked in a room with what they fear and how their reactions will be. What is more interesting, is what that fear will look like, especially if it’s not a ‘real world object’. Please note, there is a difference between having a certain phobia and having a fear of something (or someone)

So what if I was locked up in a room with my greatest fear? How would the room be?

I try to think about it. The room would be full dark and void. As I would look around I would see pieces of floating, moving images… of various points of my life. Like video clips of certain parts of your favourite movie(s). That would be my room of fear.

Choices, which I could have made, but never did.

I’m no way the type who would tend not to cling on the past but there comes a time now and then where I’m reminded of many of the (countless) choices I have made, but for some reason I never did. Things I could have done but didn’t. Which I’m supposed to but I’m not doing it. Perhaps changing my life over and/or of others’ but didn’t. That is my fear.

Not as interesting like seeing someone afraid of insects shrieking out when seeing a spider or someone pissing themselves over heights, but well that is my story.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Resolved

So as the title says, although I find ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ silly which I said already, it would be hypocritical of me if I say I didn’t think of doing something to make my life better, where I’ll use the old fashion a-picture-says-a-thousand-words thing as given by this week’s photo challenge.

The latest addition to my vast books collection is the (new edition) box set of the universally acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, which is also adapted into the most amazing tv series run on HBO and the best thing on tv (and my most favourite) I spent nearly 2 hours cleaning my entire house just to make some space for this. You can see a lot of Batman and few others in this section too. As I said in my weekly writing challenge post I want to get back into reading more.

What happened now? The Internet that is. Although my indulgence in too many things apart from these two also is, but that is not really a bad thing right? Time to get back into avid reading as I once was and also a balance in life.

And as  bonus, let me show you the song of my people. For all the existing fans, here is something which we actually hope the author sees and does something. 😛
