The Little Things

Describe a little thing — one of the things you love that define you worlds but is often overlooked.

The very fact I’m unable to think of anything at the moment suggests that I tend to overlook at lot of things which I need to pay attention. Nevertheless I do understand the importance of these little things, at least more than most others in some ways. Instead here are 2 cool songs:

Infinite Earworms

What song is stuck in your head (or on permanent rotation in your CD  or MP3 player) these days? Why does it speak to you?

Since the release of BioShock Infinite, which I have been waiting for so dam long, pre-ordered more than half a year ago, initially to be released last October ’12, then postponed to 26 Febraury ’13 (right on my birthday!) then saddened as again was postponed a month later and finally released on 26th March. While the game was amazing as fuck, extremely beautiful in all aspects, beautifully visuals, well crafted story which ended with a calm bang (quite literally), being one of the best games there is, here I want to highlight it’s extremely beautiful music. Actually the ‘main theme’ if you can call it, song is Will The Circle Be Unbroken. There is another choir version at the beginning of the game, which was mind blowing, and upon finishing the game there was this longer more calm soothing version which was infinitely (see what I did there?) amazing!

The song is often recorded unattributed. Here the music, the lyrics – so soothing and beautiful and speaks right for itself. Can’t get this over my head and keeps playing in my head. I might have even cried the first time I heard it.

There are loved ones in the glory,
Whose dear forms you often miss;
When you close your earthly story,
Will you join them in their bliss?

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
In a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

In the joyous days of childhood,
Oft they told of wondrous love,
Pointed to the dying Savior
Now they dwell with Him above.

You remember songs of heaven
Which you sang with childish voice,
Do you love the hymns they taught you,
Or are songs of earth your choice?

You can picture happy gatherings
Round the fireside long ago,
And you think of tearful partings,
When they left you here below:

One by one their seats were emptied,
One by one they went away;
Here the circle has been broken
Will it be complete one day?

This version here is by voice actor of Booker (Troy Baker) plays the guitar and the voice actress of Elizabeth (Courtnee Draper) sings it. Here is a clip from the credits of the game in the studio along with creative director and co-founder of Irrational Games Ken Levin, the creator and writer of the BioShock franchise.

Blogging Rhapsody

Write about the subject you usually blog about as if you were a music critic.

While I understand (clearly) the difference between a review and my opinion, I give both extensively on various subjects and products. I don’t want to get in the general misconception of people, no regards for another’s or those who simply give up a thumbs up or down depending on other reactions. Coming on track, the only time I wrote a review pertaining to music was this one on Linkin Park‘s album LIVING THINGS. Otherwise I just like and prefer to sit back and enjoy it so far. As for blogging, I don’t stick to any subject, maybe I should instead write on blogging but that too I frequently deal with which you can have a look.

We are extraordinary people

I came across this song by the trailer of this upcoming game which I’m dying to get (and equally dying hoping it releases on PC). The song is Not Your Kind Of People by Garbage. Although this record released last year, it perfectly sums up my growing up in childhood and even my current state. Just beautiful.

Heck it’s so beautiful that I’ll transcribe/put down the lyrics here so you don’t have to go anywhere.

We are not your kind of people.
You seem kind of phoney.
Everything’s a lie.
We are not your kind of people.
Something in your makeup.
Don’t see eye to eye.

We are not your kind of people.
Don’t want to be like you.
Ever in our lives.
We are not your kind of people.
We fight when you start talking.
There’s nothing but white noise

Running around trying to fit in,
Wanting to be loved.
It doesn’t take much.
For someone to shut you down.
When you build a shell,
Build an army in your mind.
You can’t sit still.
And you don’t like hanging round the crowd.
They don’t understand

You dropped by as I was sleeping.
You came to see the whole commotion.
And when I woke I started laughing.
The jokes on me for not believing.

We are not your kind of people.
Speak a different language.
We see through your lies.
We are not your kind of people.
Won’t be cast as demons,
Creatures you despise.

We are extraordinary people. We are…

Besides, one of my friends daily does a music blog with some cool music, you might want to check that out if you like hearing new different music.

10 years of Meteora

Linkin Park‘s highly rated, bestselling album, Meteora was released on this day, exactly 10 years ago.

Since then, the band have evolved, experimenting with various musical styles and genres in the process and released several other successful studio efforts. Linkin Park have become a force in the music industry with a unique vibe to their music.

But Meteora is a special album. Thousands of people connected to the lyrics and the music on the album, and it’s got them through tougher times in their lives making the band unforgettable and special to them.

If Hybrid Theory was a dark place – Meteora was a light at the end of the tunnel.

For me personally this is very special. Although my most favourite album is Hybrid Theory, their debut record, it was around this time before their second record’s release that the band gained quite some publicity here after their success and I heard them, becoming a instant devotee. Linkin Park became not just a favourite band, they were my religion. Their music helped me overcome many difficult times growing up, and I felt an emotional connection which isn’t possible with something or someone else.

Today after all these years, they continue to be my most favourite, inspirational and heroic band, and continue to help me in becoming a better person. Despite the fact I’ve been a die-hard fan for about a decade, being a member of the Linkin Park Street Team (we call ourselves proud LP Street Soldiers) and the LP Underground, the official fan club of the band, I haven’t been fortunate enough to see them live even once. But that is not quite disheartening, as I have met many wonderful people all over the world throughout the years thanks to them, along with my devoted fellow fans here co-run India’s biggest LP fansite Linkin Park India, officially recognized by the music label EMI Music India here and the biggest online store flipkart, and following Mike‘s own words, not only we are trying to bring my favourite band to my country, but following it in every aspect of our lives.

When we started the band, it was because we were waiting for a sound that never happened. We got tired of waiting, and we decided to just do it ourselves.

– Mike Shinoda

Here is to amazing 10 years of music and memories. 🙂 Waiting for the day to meet my most favourite band on the planet and see them live. Until then.

Week by the Playlist

Tell us how your week went by putting together a playlist of  five songs that represent it.

Maybe Tomorrow Is a Better Day by Poets of the Fall

Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park

Numb by Linkin Park

Bored by Deftones

Dreaming Wide Awake by Poets of the Fall

Well honestly that is more how my week was based on remembering songs from my favourite bands than actually pertaining the song to the context itself. Still accurate more or less. Here is a post with songs describing my life.

Breaking Somewhere Inside

Basically the title comes from three of my favourite songs from my most favourite band Linkin Park which describes my life in a way. The lyrics explain it so beautifully that I don’t need to explain anything.

How Music Matters (to me)

Image

Universally accepted addiction, healing medicine, entertainment or simply for passing time – Music. What would have life been without it?

What role does music play in my life? I should say quite a big one. Although I don’t actively blast listen to much music now due to so many things happening, or simply I prefer the quiet more (dam am I growing too old already?) music had a big impact on my life, more than I care to admit.

Anyone who knows me in person/virtually or simply judging by looking at the image above, Linkin Park is my most all time favourite band of all time. Not only they are great musicians but also great human beings. Their music was one of the first I heard when I started listening to music when I was a kid in school, I didn’t have a computer back then and it was limited to tv, radio, CDs, and computers of cousins and my uncle. Not to forget my school. I was very much into the developing internet and doing various crap, learning stuff like HTML, Flash, Photoshop and other minor stuff along the way while at it. Everything changed in ’05 when I got my very own computer at home. The TV slowly became a long lost friend, as I was no longer ‘needed it; for movies, music, and hell since then till today, all ‘TV shows’ are seen by me on my laptop.

Coming to music here, from Linkin Park and very few other classic artists like The Beatles, Eagles, Nirvana (I remember back then the first time I thought they were an Indian band because of the name), Led Zeppelin and some others. I was never into Hindi music or any of the Indian pop simply because most of them were either crap while others I simply couldn’t understand (Hindi) properly.

Music, especially Linkin Park, changed my life completely. I was always the  lone-wolf on my own, so that was my salvation (in a manner of speaking). Listening to good music and lyrics calmed the mind and made me think (that happens only when you listen to the good ones and not today’s crap mostly in the name of music). Coming to LP, because of them my interest broadened widely, and contrary to my appearance which looks like I’m the kind into rock and metal, I enjoy listening to many artists from almost all genres of music ranging from rock, metal to even classic, orchestra and especially soundtracks from video games, anime, movies and shows. Anything which sounds good to my ears and head.

Heck, Linkin Park has become a part of my identity today, some even introduce me to others as ‘the Linkin Park guy’ here. I have done a lot in my life directly or indirectly inspired by them. Apart from my 2 blogs, I also co-run Linkin Park India Unlimited, India’s #1 Linkin Park fansite, and have met many amazing people here and around the world all thanks to them. I wasn’t always the awesome person I’m now 😛 and I felt shit about myself hell lot of times before, and these powerful words made me stronger and better person. Or I’d like to think that way.

It saddens me a bit as I’m a member of the official fan club Linkin Park Underground and waiting for over 9 years to see them live now, and probably I’m one of the oldest fans/LPUers who haven’t seen them yet. I wish I was (filthy) rich at such times so that I could fly overseas. Well atleast I got all the online privileges and even shout outs by Mike Shinoda himself.

When we started the band, it was because we were waiting for a sound that never happened. We got tired of waiting, and we decided to just do it ourselves.

– Mike Shinoda

This quote by Mike has inspired me a lot personally to do things in my life, and many of my fellow mates at LPIU where we are trying to implement it, in this case most importantly to make our favourite band perform in our country. So far we have managed to achieve some good milestones, small but still important and hopefully will get to see them live here in India soon in the future.

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
