The early bird catches the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Early bird, or night owl?

I remember writing for this exact question before but can’t seem to find it. Regardless I’m mostly a night owl, but why mostly and not declaring myself completely one is because I do get up early many times (even with hardly any sleep). So I come in both categories I guess, but practically don’t we all?

Besides I heard this brilliant quote recently:

The early bird catches the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.

ImageI later found out there’s a book of that name, and I might read it sometime soon. Coming to what I said, the quote cleverly attributes that while it’s good to start early for success, sometimes ‘misfortune’ (something which I still question) can lead to undesirable outcomes. The second part of the quote in a way mentions how procrastination in fact, can lead oneself from being saved for better results in the future. Like the first mouse could be killed/trapped and the second can learn from what happened to the first. And/or claim the cheese as a reward for itself, as the trapped only worked and won’t again. But what if the cheese is rat poisoned? Then in that case even the 2nd mouse is doomed despite learning of what befell the first if it went on to take it.

So you see it all comes down to the situation at hand. I find it naive to call myself or someone else a night owl (many accused me of being a dog or well, an asshole but this is something strange I say) or someone else for that matter, who stays awake more than others or late hours mostly. That’s something I can stop doing , something purely my own decision, but today won’t be that day, nor will it be tomorrow. Okay, that was a quote by Batman, and I’d rather be called Batman than a lame owl. I like owls more than bats though. Oh well.

Wall to Wall

What do you display on the walls of your home — photos, posters, artwork, nothing? How do you choose what to display? What mood are you trying to create?

My mood or what I think doesn’t matter here. As it is, with lot of shit I’m already living as a liability here my parents put it, and considered lucky not on the streets or kicked out despite with what I have. Someday in a house of my own, which I would 110% be able to call home I’d like to do lot of crazy decoration. For now this is what the walls of my living room looks like.

Again and again

Tell us about a book you can read again and again without getting bored — what is it that speaks to you?

I don’t know what to answer for this. Actually there are many which I’ve read multiple times. But I tend not to do that as I rather read new and more stuff than the same ones again. Besides in recent years didn’t do a lot of reading so need to focus on that first.

Clone Wars

ImageIf I could clone myself, then I should also be able to absorb all my clones back. This might be another way of splitting oneself into multiple beings for being many places at the same time. While distributing all responsibilities and workload off and lazying my ass off is what I would initially prefer to do, but the thing is by standard definition a clone is a (exact?) copy of the original. In that case, wouldn’t all the clones think of the same thing? That’s why I’d rather have ‘tweaked versions’ of my clones, and assign each of them to rather learn some new skill, many which I would like to know theoretically but might not be possible. Then just absorb them all back and here I get a ‘desired perfect version’ of myself. Now if only that was possible.

Infinite Earworms

What song is stuck in your head (or on permanent rotation in your CD  or MP3 player) these days? Why does it speak to you?

Since the release of BioShock Infinite, which I have been waiting for so dam long, pre-ordered more than half a year ago, initially to be released last October ’12, then postponed to 26 Febraury ’13 (right on my birthday!) then saddened as again was postponed a month later and finally released on 26th March. While the game was amazing as fuck, extremely beautiful in all aspects, beautifully visuals, well crafted story which ended with a calm bang (quite literally), being one of the best games there is, here I want to highlight it’s extremely beautiful music. Actually the ‘main theme’ if you can call it, song is Will The Circle Be Unbroken. There is another choir version at the beginning of the game, which was mind blowing, and upon finishing the game there was this longer more calm soothing version which was infinitely (see what I did there?) amazing!

The song is often recorded unattributed. Here the music, the lyrics – so soothing and beautiful and speaks right for itself. Can’t get this over my head and keeps playing in my head. I might have even cried the first time I heard it.

There are loved ones in the glory,
Whose dear forms you often miss;
When you close your earthly story,
Will you join them in their bliss?

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, by and by?
In a better home awaiting
In the sky, in the sky?

In the joyous days of childhood,
Oft they told of wondrous love,
Pointed to the dying Savior
Now they dwell with Him above.

You remember songs of heaven
Which you sang with childish voice,
Do you love the hymns they taught you,
Or are songs of earth your choice?

You can picture happy gatherings
Round the fireside long ago,
And you think of tearful partings,
When they left you here below:

One by one their seats were emptied,
One by one they went away;
Here the circle has been broken
Will it be complete one day?

This version here is by voice actor of Booker (Troy Baker) plays the guitar and the voice actress of Elizabeth (Courtnee Draper) sings it. Here is a clip from the credits of the game in the studio along with creative director and co-founder of Irrational Games Ken Levin, the creator and writer of the BioShock franchise.

Person, Place, Thing

This writing challenge reminds of an old pen and paper game which I used to play back in the day when I was a kid. It was simply called name, place, animal, thing (yeah I know, if you too noticed, the absence of the conjunction and always bothered me too, but maybe that was just me). As far as I know it was widely popular here played by many kids, the objective simply was at a given random letter each had to write down name of a person, a place, an animal and a thing beginning with that letter and as the game went on, the person scoring most points based on being the first, uniqueness of what he/she wrote, et cetera. Here I’m going to break the established order which I always do, and going to talk about a place which I already mentioned here before, a local cafe and juice bar – Fizzy.

I already wrote a small dedicated post about it here on Local Flavor, and going to add a bit more on it. As I’ve already mentioned, I’m coming here since the first day it opened all those years ago. I remember being in 6th grade then. I go there almost everyday when, and even today evening had my regular cold cappuccino. The place has a pretty neat open ambiance with a cross road in front of it and a (girls) school directly at the opposite. My school (which was a boys school) was also nearby, so you might get the picture where I’m getting at. 😉 And not to mention one of the biggest residential areas among others nearby. Suffice to say they are doing well. Popular hang out places for couples, friends and lonely buggers (like me). Heck there was a significant ‘No PDA‘ board too but I’m not going to go there. 😛

ImageComing to which, perhaps the most iconic thing served, from it’s various juices and sodas, frankies, grilled sandwiches, pastries and others, is my most favourite cold cappuccino. Have been drinking that for nearly a decade now! If you look at it, it’s nothing extraordinary, just a regular cold coffee with a touch of chocolate powder sprinkled. But after having been taking it for such a long time, don’t think even the very dam expensive ones like Starbucks or others can beat it to the top. Just another example of simplicity being #1. Well, just one thing, there was a time when it was mere ₹ 12 and including vanilla or chocolate ice-cream was ₹ 20-25. Today the coffee alone is just ₹ 25, add 20 more for any ice-cream. Ah I miss those days, casually having cold coffee with a favourite ball of ice-cream.

Coming to the person, here I would make it people, as I don’t know anyone singular in particular to write about, unless of course that person is me which I don’t want to bore you with. The place is all about people meeting and having a good time, so perhaps a nod to everyone I spent time there. Specially the staff there, who now in these few years adorn a red t-shirt show casing their employers. Or rather employer, since the place as far as I know started by one guy, who knows me very well now of course, and turned out to be a family friend of one of my old friends. From a small shop now a large happening cafe and 4 more branches in that area of the city, truly a success. Not only money wise but making memories for countless people as well, this is a place merged with my own history.

Blogging Rhapsody

Write about the subject you usually blog about as if you were a music critic.

While I understand (clearly) the difference between a review and my opinion, I give both extensively on various subjects and products. I don’t want to get in the general misconception of people, no regards for another’s or those who simply give up a thumbs up or down depending on other reactions. Coming on track, the only time I wrote a review pertaining to music was this one on Linkin Park‘s album LIVING THINGS. Otherwise I just like and prefer to sit back and enjoy it so far. As for blogging, I don’t stick to any subject, maybe I should instead write on blogging but that too I frequently deal with which you can have a look.

Football, Women, Fried Rice and Popcorn.

For now I won’t be able to write a companion post for what I want to share, or in some ways don’t want to as I might be able to do justice to them. Here I want to share 2 awesome posts, on both topics which I feel strongly about.

One is a post written by a good blogger friend of mine, Why Can’t I Be A Football Fan? She talks about the difficulties and rather idiocies faced by women here. I won’t go further, do read it yourself, irrespective who and where you are. It has been making a few rounds notably. I just want to extend this not only to the game, but literally everywhere.

Not trivializing the rather very important issue but now just going away from seriousness to bit of the humour side, this other one is just a random blog post I saw before typing this while reading through blogs: Girlfriends are like fried rice. Boyfriends are like popcorn. The writer makes a amusing analogy there and in a way describes the truth behind them. Now at least I know what to call who I’m looking for 😛

Have fun reading.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Up

While there are many which I can share for this challenge, here is what I dug up form the archives which I thought is a lovely representation.

Image

This is at IMAX Mumbai situated at Wadala, the first and biggest IMAX theater in whole of Asia which proudly is in my city. Took this in 2010, when I went to watch Iron Man 2 on the opening day here. Perhaps I’ll do it again when I go to see Iron Man 3 which releases next week.

Originally I wanted to share these however, which I took last month during this event which I won at. From the rooftop of the hotel, simply amazing view at the end of the city where the land ends and sea/ocean continues.

And lastly, up wouldn’t remain truly up if I don’t post this (looks like I’m being too generous this time). This is my hall ceiling which I sort of look at when sleeping faced up. Took it in pitch dark while testing my Lumia 920’s low light camera capabilities. Pretty amazing but still miss my previous amazing phone the C905 though, the world’s first true camera phone with it’s amazing Xenon flash. That could actually capture the fan with it’s blades halted.
